Firm History

Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer was formed by the merger of Baldwin Haspel (formed in 1914) and Burke & Mayer (formed in 1971).

Over the decades, The Firm's practice has expanded into many significant areas. During the 1930's and 1940's, the Firm developed a special expertise in the representation of financial institutions and an extensive business law practice, vigorously representing an impressive roster of local, regional and national clients. In the 1960's and 1970's, as state and federal tax laws became increasingly complex, the Firm built one of Louisiana's most extensive tax practices.

Today the Firm is active in the areas of admiralty & maritime, bankruptcy, business, commercial & casualty litigation, energy/offshore, environmental, estate planning & probate, general business, labor & employment, mergers & acquisitions, and taxation. Our success reflects the firm's ability to streamline the delivery of services to meet changing client needs as part of its commitment to provide quality legal services in a timely, cost-efficient fashion.

The Firm is a member of Meritas which is the largest affiliation of independent business and commercial law firms worldwide.

In addition to their legal practice, members of Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer serve active roles on the boards of directors and governing bodies of various companies as well as charitable, civic, and professional organizations.
